Asociación Argentina de Polo

The Asociación Argentina de Polo (AAP) is the governing body of polo in Argentina and one of the most powerful sporting organisations in the world of equestrian sport. Founded in 1922, the AAP has been the steward of Argentine polo's remarkable global dominance for over a century, administering the handicap system, organising the legendary Triple Crown, and representing Argentina at the Federación Internacional de Polo (FIP). The AAP's primary responsibility is the administration of Argentina's national handicap system — the most respected and widely referenced polo rating system in the world. The AAP handicap is the gold standard against which other nations' ratings are benchmarked, and Argentine-rated players are sought by teams and patrons across every major polo circuit. The association sets and reviews handicaps for Argentina's professional and amateur players annually, maintaining the integrity of the system that underpins the sport's competitive structure. The Triple Crown — comprising the Copa Hurlingham, Copa Abierta Tortugas, and the Argentine Open at Palermo — is the AAP's greatest organisational achievement and the centrepiece of world polo's calendar. The Argentine Open in particular, held annually at the Campo Argentino de Polo in Palermo, Buenos Aires, is universally recognised as the world's premier polo tournament: the event that defines careers, establishes legacies, and attracts the sport's greatest players and most passionate audiences.
