Biography
Adolfo Cambiaso is the most decorated and widely acclaimed polo player in the history of the sport. Born on 15 March 1975 in Cañuelas, Buenos Aires Province, he displayed extraordinary talent from childhood, benefitting from an immersive upbringing in one of Argentina's great polo-producing regions. He achieved a 10-goal handicap rating — the sport's maximum — and has maintained it continuously since 1995, a tenure of dominance without parallel in the professional game. Cambiaso founded and built La Dolfina, the polo team that became the most successful in Argentine Open history. With La Dolfina he won nine Argentine Open titles — more than any other player or team in the modern era — transforming what had been a chaotic, team-switching professional circuit into a model of consistency, loyalty, and excellence. His playing style defies easy categorisation: he is simultaneously the most powerful striker, the most creative tactician, and the most effective leader on any field he enters. His dominance extended across every major circuit. He won the Hurlingham Open and the Tortugas Open multiple times, completing multiple Triple Crowns in Argentina. In the United Kingdom, he played at Guards Polo Club and Cowdray Park, competing in the Gold Cup campaigns that defined the European summer season. His presence at any tournament guaranteed elevated standards — opponents elevated their game simply to compete with him. In 2022, Cambiaso achieved something unprecedented: he founded his own polo team with his son Poroto Cambiaso and won the Argentine Open with a family-centred squad, marking a new chapter in La Dolfina's history. His relationship with the sport extends beyond competition — he breeds and trains polo ponies of exceptional quality through his La Dolfina estancia, and has become one of the most respected horsemen in the world. Polls of players, patrons, and officials consistently place him above all other competitors in the sport's history — a designation his record fully supports.
