Colonel Thakur Rajnath Singh Jhala was one of the finest military polo players India produced in the twentieth century, a representative of the Indian Army polo tradition that helped carry the sport through the post-independence era when royal patronage declined and institutional support became the primary driver of polo in the country. An 8-goal player at his peak, Jhala competed at the highest levels of Indian polo during a distinguished military career, representing the Indian Army in national tournaments and contributing to the maintenance of polo standards within a military establishment that had long been one of the sport's most important custodians.
