Jaime Zobel de Ayala is the patriarch of polo in the Philippines and one of Asia's most influential figures in the sport. As chairman emeritus of the Ayala Corporation — one of the largest and oldest conglomerates in the Philippines — he brought extraordinary resources, social capital, and personal passion to bear in building polo as a serious sport in the country. He is the driving force behind the Manila Polo Club's development into one of Southeast Asia's premier polo venues, transforming what was already a historic institution into a world-class facility with multiple fields and international-standard amenities. Zobel de Ayala began playing polo as a young man and maintained an active playing career well into his later years, achieving a 3-goal handicap at his peak under the Philippine Polo Association.
