    Polo in Chile

Chile has a well-established polo scene centred around Santiago, with the Club de Polo San Cristóbal and other venues in the metropolitan region providing the backbone of domestic competition. The Federación Chilena de Polo governs the sport and oversees a calendar that runs through the Southern Hemisphere spring and summer. Chile sends competitive teams to South American international tournaments and produces players who go on to compete in Argentina and Europe. The country's equestrian culture, rooted in huaso (Chilean cowboy) traditions, provides a natural base for polo's development.

    Club de Polo de Chile

    , Chile

Club de Polo de Chile is the flagship institution of Chilean polo, closely associated with the Asociación de Polo de Chile (APCh) and located in the Santiago metropolitan area. Chile has a distinguished polo tradition dating to the late 19th century, rooted in the country's deep equestrian culture and the hacienda lifestyle of the Central Valley. The club serves as the headquarters of competitive Chilean polo, hosting the Chilean Open and other APCh-sanctioned tournaments that draw Argentine and international professionals to compete alongside Chile's best domestic players. Santiago's climate allows for a broad playing season from September through April, and the club's grounds in the agricultural hinterlands south of the capital offer excellent natural turf conditions. Members benefit from good stabling, a traditional clubhouse, and access to polo instruction from qualified APCh coaches. The club plays a central role in fielding Chile's national polo team for FIP competitions.

    Hacienda Polo Club

    , Chile

Hacienda Polo Club is one of Chile's premier polo establishments, set in the dramatic landscape of the Andean foothills near Santiago — a setting that provides a spectacular visual backdrop to a sport that thrives on open space and natural beauty. The club operates at the heart of the Chilean polo elite, hosting the country's top tournaments and providing facilities that attract international players and teams to compete in South America's most picturesque polo destination. The club's fields are maintained to a high standard appropriate to the Chilean elite circuit, with well-kept grass surfaces that provide good playing conditions through the Chilean spring and summer season (October through March). The surrounding Andean landscape — with snow-capped peaks visible on clear days — creates an extraordinary visual context for match play, and has made Hacienda a popular destination for international polo tourists and visiting professionals who combine competitive polo with the cultural and natural attractions of the Santiago region. Hacienda Polo Club's facilities extend beyond its playing fields to encompass the full range of services expected at a top-tier club: stable facilities for visiting horses, clubhouse and spectator infrastructure, and the social events calendar that forms an important part of any elite polo club's life. The club is a gathering point for Chile's polo community — a relatively small but enthusiastic and well-resourced group of players who support a competitive circuit that punches above its weight in South American polo terms.

    Haras de Pirque Polo Club

    , Chile

Haras de Pirque is one of Chile's most beautiful polo settings, a private estate and polo operation situated in the Maipo Valley — Chile's most celebrated wine-producing region — approximately 40 kilometres southeast of Santiago in the foothills of the Andes. The haras (stud farm) combines thoroughbred horse breeding with polo facilities in a classic Chilean estancia setting that represents the sport at its most elegant and authentic. The Maipo Valley backdrop — with vineyards stretching to the Andean foothills and the distant snow-capped peaks framing every vista — provides one of South America's most dramatic polo settings. Matches at Pirque have a different quality from urban polo: slower-paced in atmosphere, deeply connected to the land, and imbued with the distinctive character of Chilean wine country culture. Haras de Pirque operates as both a competitive polo venue and a destination for polo tourism, attracting visitors who combine a visit with winery experiences at the neighbouring estates of Concha y Toro, Santa Rita, and other Maipo Valley producers. The estate's accommodation and hospitality offer a complete polo retreat experience that is growing in appeal among international equestrian travellers. The breeding programme at Pirque produces polo ponies of high quality that serve both the estate's own team and the broader Chilean polo market, connecting the facility's sporting and commercial activities in a model that reflects the best South American polo estate traditions.

    La Dehesa Polo Club

The club's grounds — with their dramatic mountain backdrop and well-maintained turf fields — provide the setting for the country's most important polo competitions and attract the strongest international teams that visit Chile. La Dehesa has established itself as the venue where Chilean polo is at its most competitive and its most visible. The club's tournaments draw professional players from Argentina, the UK, and elsewhere who come to participate in events that benefit from the proximity to Santiago's wealth and the hospitality of the club's well-connected membership. The facilities at La Dehesa reflect investment commensurate with its status as Chile's premier polo venue: multiple well-kept fields, excellent stabling, a quality clubhouse, and the organisational infrastructure necessary to host high-goal competitive events. Its matches are social occasions of considerable significance in the Chilean capital, attracting business leaders, diplomatic community members, and the country's most prominent families to events that combine competitive polo with the social rituals that have made the sport such an enduring part of South American high society.
